Willie C. Morton, 74, lovingly known as "Doddie," passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital~GT in Columbus, Mississippi. He was born to Sammie Morton, Sr. and Earnestine Stewart on August 15, 1951, in Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi, where his life’s journey began and where he created a legacy of kindness, dedication, and quiet strength.
Doddie devoted much of his professional life to Bryan Foods, working in ham processing. His commitment to his work was evident in both his reliability and the pride he took in his craft. Colleagues and friends remember him as a steadfast presence who directed his efforts toward every task with diligence and an unassuming sense of responsibility.
Much of Doddie's free time was spent immersed in the pastimes that brought him the greatest joy: fishing and hunting. In the quiet early mornings by the water’s edge or among the woods, he found solace and happiness. These pursuits, which connected him to the land and community around him, became treasured traditions that mirrored his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Rodney Walker; and his daughter, Shoneel Walker; 5 brothers: Sammie Morton, Jr., Aaron Morton, Carneal Morton, Jessie Morton, and Johnny Morton; 4 sisters: Betty Morton, Mary Morton, Lillie Blanchard, and Gloria Morton. Doddie’s legacy endures in the love and lessons he gave to his children, whose lives have been shaped by his example of strength, loyalty, and compassion.
Family, friends, and all who knew Doddie are invited to celebrate his life and honor his memory. Visitation will be held at Belle Memorial Funeral Home, 216 Hwy 25 South, Aberdeen, MS, on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., also at Belle Memorial Funeral Home. Following the service, Doddie will be laid to rest at Mount Union MB Church Cemetery, Hwy 25 South, Aberdeen, MS.
Although Willie C. "Doddie" Morton has departed, his humility, resilience, and the warmth of his presence live on in those who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
