Willie Ed Guines, 55, a beloved member of the West Point community, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the age of 55, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. Born on June 29, 1970, in West Point, Clay County, Mississippi, Willie was the son of Walter Lee Guines and Mauderine Cannon. His father, Walter, predeceased him, but his spirit lives on through the family he cherished so dearly.
Willie was a skilled mechanic, known for his craftsmanship and commitment to excellence. His hands were always busy, either repairing vehicles or lending assistance to friends and neighbors in need. He was not just known for his talent but also for his generous spirit—a testament to the profound impact he had on those around him.
He is survived by his loving mother, Mauderine Cannon, and his adoring wife, Lou Ann Wofford - Guines. Together, they raised a bright family, which includes their son, Derrick Wofford, as well as daughters Likimerers Wofford - Petty and Jacquelyn Wofford. Willie shared a special bond with each of his children, imbuing in them the values of hard work and compassion.
Willie’s legacy will also continue through his brothers—Lewis, Clem, Johnny, Joe Guines, Richard, Jerry, and Gary Guines—each of whom held a unique place in his life, as well as his sisters, Catherine Walker, Dorothy Moore, and Daisy Walker, who have been a source of strength and support throughout his journey.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at the Saint Matthew Temple Church Of God In Christ located at 294 5th Street, West Point, MS 39773, starting at 11:00 AM. Here, family and friends will gather to honor and remember Willie, sharing stories and celebrating the remarkable impact he made in their lives.
As we remember Willie Ed Guines, let us reflect on a life well-lived, full of joy, resilience, and love for family and community. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him.
