Sonjia Kaye Sykes, 51, born on December 29, 1973, in Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - East in Memphis, Tennessee. Sonjia, known for her warmth and dedication, had a fulfilling career working in assembly at Toyota, where she became a valued member of her team.
Sonjia's life was characterized by her deep love and commitment to her family. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Ohara Sykes, and her cherished children: sons Brandon McMillian, Undra Hammond, and Dejuanta McMillian, as well as daughters Brittany McMillian and Lila Hammond. Sonjia also shared a close bond with her father, Willie James McMillian, and mother, Wilma Jean Walker-McMillian.
A Visitation celebrating Sonjia's life will take place at Belle Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Mississippi, on Friday, December 19, 2025. The first visitation will begin at 4:00 PM and conclude at 5:00 PM (Family); followed by (Public) visitation from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather to share their memories and support one another during this difficult time.
Additionally, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at New Life Missionary Baptist Church, starting at 2:00 PM. This event will provide an opportunity for all who knew Sonjia to come together to honor her life and the joyful moments they shared.
Sonjia's spirit will remain alive in the hearts of her family and friends, who will remember her kindness, love for life, and the impact she made on everyone she met. She will be dearly missed but forever cherished.
