Robert Lee McKinney

Robert Lee McKinney, 87, born on May 14, 1939, in Smithville, Monroe County, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026. He was a cherished member of his community and a deeply loved husband, son, and friend.

Robert spent his life rooted in the values and traditions of his hometown. He dedicated much of his working years as a Pipe Cutter at Mueller Brass, where his strong work ethic and commitment earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Through his vocation, Robert contributed steadfastly to his community and embodied a sense of diligence and responsibility that those around him came to depend on.

Family was always of utmost importance to Robert. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Sarah Shumpert - McKinney, who survives him and now carries forward the memory of their years together. Robert was the beloved son of Sam McKinney and Erma Lee Nunn McKinney, who both preceded him in death. Their influence and presence in his life remained a guiding force throughout his years. 

Those who knew Robert remember him not only for his unwavering dedication to his family and work but also for his quiet strength and steadfast presence. He built relationships grounded in mutual respect and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to share in his journey. His legacy endures in the lives he touched, and his loss is deeply felt by family and friends.

A visitation in Robert’s honor will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Spruell Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 60062 Forrester Lane, Smithville, MS 38870. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 p.m., also at the Spruell Chapel United Methodist Church. The burial will take place at Saint Paul/New Hope Cemetery #2, 60437 Hatley Detroit Road, Smithville, MS 38870, on the same day.

Robert Lee McKinney’s life was a testament to steadfast devotion, hard work, and the enduring bonds of family. His memory will be cherished, and his presence deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
