She passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025, in Shannon, Lee County, Mississippi. Opel’s life was marked by deep familial bonds and a commitment to her community that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Opel was the cherished daughter of Willie Norman Sykes and Emma Wallace, both of whom have preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving family, including her son, Robert Hogan, Jr., and his wife Diane, as well as her daughters, Gloria Ann Trice and her husband Lionel, and Shirley Jean Trice and her husband Jerome. The legacy she leaves behind is one of love, strength, and resilience.
A Visitation in honor of Opel Hogan will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Belle Memorial Funeral Home located at 216 Hwy 25 South, PO Box 129, Aberdeen, MS 39730. Following this, a Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM at Mount Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, situated at 22304 Hwy 45 N., Aberdeen, MS 39730.
Opel’s spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her, as her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her dedication to family and her community remains a testament to her life’s work and the love she fostered in all her relationships.
