Matthew Roosevelt Gunn, 35, affectionately known as "Wolf", a beloved son and cherished friend was born on January 26, 1989, in Amory, Monroe County, Mississippi. A bright light, tragically He was taken from our world too soon on Monday, March 31, 2025, in Ocala, Marion County, Florida. A passionate, vibrant soul he always followed his own path, Matthew’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
Matthew was the cherished son of Ann Wells, whose love and support were unwavering throughout his life. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Gunn, Jr., whose guiding presence is deeply missed. He was also preceded in death by his grandmothers: Vernice Nell Moore and Mary Gunn; His grandfather, Joseph Gunn, Sr.; and his papa Shug Whitfield.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his daughter: Kingsley Jane; his Mother: Ann (Joe) Johnson of Ocala, FL; his stepdad: Johnny Whitfield of Amory, MS; his brothers: Nicholas (Sabrina) Whitfield of Amory, MS; Jonathan (Kayla) Whitfield of Atlanta, GA; his sisters: Tracey Whitfield of Amory, MS, LaKeisha (Jamie) Dobbs of Huntsville, AL; aunts: Beatrice Gunn and Nancy Moore of Tupelo, MS, Susan Moore of Wren, MS, Sandy Moore of Aberdeen, MS, Costella and Eula Whitfield of Amory, MS, Jean Whitfield of Columbus, MS; uncles: James Moore and Crawford McIntosh of Tupelo, MS, James Whitfield of Amory, MS, Edgar and Charles Whitfield of Atlanta, GA; great aunt: Annie Laura, whom he affectionately called Grandma of Tupelo, MS. His nephews: Ben, Eli, Henry, JaQuinn, Robert, Quinton, Jayden, Caden, Jakeylin and Jakevon; His nieces: Izzy, Princess, Hallie, Jamari,Sanatana and D'atva, and Isabella; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends where he leaves behind a legacy of Love, Laughter, and a vibrant spirit that touched the lives of all who knew him.
Matthew’s life was a tapestry woven with kindness, humor, and an unconquerable spirit. His friends often described him as a gentle soul with a contagious smile that could brighten even the gloomiest of days. He possessed a genuine interest in the well-being of others, always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear.
The family invites all who knew and loved Matthew to join together in celebrating his life. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Belle Memorial Funeral Home located at 807 108th St., Amory, MS 38821. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 19, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM, also at Belle Memorial Funeral Home.
