With deep respect and fond remembrance, we honor the life of Everlena Williams Gathings, 90, who passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. Born to the union of Booker T. Williams and Sidney Ann Davis-Williams on February 1, 1936, in Monroe County, Mississippi, Everlena’s journey was characterized by dedication, quiet strength, and unwavering generosity.
Everlena spent her formative years in the heart of Monroe County, where her compassion and enduring sense of community began to shine early in life. Those who knew her recall a woman of steadfast character, integrity, and kindness. Throughout her years, she carried the spirit of her birthplace with her, enriching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Her professional life was devoted to service in her role as a waitress at Shelaine Restaurant for 45+ years. Through her work, Everlena shared not only meals but warmth, stories, and laughter. She took genuine joy in greeting patrons with a welcoming smile, forming bonds that extended far beyond the restaurant’s walls. Her colleagues and customers alike will remember her tireless work ethic and her knack for making everyone feel valued and seen.
Everlena's life was grounded in her connection to her community. She remained a loyal friend to many, and her presence was a source of comfort in times of both celebration and hardship. Her ability to listen, support, and bring gentle guidance left an indelible mark on countless lives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Booker T. Williams and Sidney Ann Davis-Williams; her husband, Amos Gathings, Jr.; Booker T. Williams, Jr. and Willie B. Williams; and two granddaughters.
As we gather to mourn Everlena’s passing, we also celebrate the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy woven from years of dedication, service, and quiet grace.
Everlena leaves to cherish her precious memories: 5 sons, Amos (Alice) Gathings III, Moses Gathings, William Dwight (Kathy) Gathings, Larry Gathings, Bobby Joe (Dorothy) Gathings; a bonus son, Cornell Hampton; 2 daughters: Geneva Gathings Rowe and Sidney Ann (bobby) Spencer1 brother: Henderson (Victoria) Williams, Sr.: 4 sisters: Juanita Williams Gladney (Thomas), Elizabeth Williams Vasser (Willie), Sidney Williams Miller (Richard), and Leomia Williams Foard (Roosevelt): twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Everlena are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Belle Memorial Funeral Home, located at 216 Hwy 25 South, Aberdeen, MS 39730. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at White Rock Community Baptist Church, 20426 White Rock Road, Aberdeen, MS 39730. Everlena will be laid to rest at White Rock Community Baptist Church Cemetery, 20426 White Rock Road, Aberdeen, MS 39730.
