Estella Ewing, 73, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital ~GT in Columbus, MS. Born on October 6, 1952, in Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi, to Lonzia Carouthers and Virginia Gathings; Estella spent her life rooted in her hometown, surrounded by family and friends who cherished her spirit, dedication, and warmth.
Estella dedicated much of her professional life to serving others as a home health worker with Oxford Home Health. Through her years in this vocation, she touched the lives of many families in her community. Estella’s unwavering commitment and compassion were evident in every patient she tended to; her gentle hands and kind heart brought comfort and dignity to those who needed it most.
Her devotion was not limited to her career—Estella was also deeply involved in her church community, where she served as a Church Usher. Her welcoming smile and steady presence made everyone feel at home in the sanctuary. Colleagues and parishioners alike remember her as a pillar of strength and reliability, always ready to greet friends and newcomers with grace.
Family was at the center of Estella’s world. She is survived by her loving daughter, Keisha Ewing, whose life has been shaped by Estella’s guidance and support. Estella’s passing is mourned by her brothers Perry Haynes, Eugene Gathings, LC Haynes, Darnell Haynes, and RL Shaw, as well as her sisters Eloise Carothers, Doris Carothers, Mary Everette, and Willie Mae Shaw. Each sibling holds dear the memories of Estella’s humor, wisdom, and loyalty. Through gatherings, celebrations, and quiet moments alike, Estella’s familial bonds with those she held closest remained unbreakable.
Estella’s journey through life is remembered not just for her achievements and her service, but for the kindness and light she consistently shared. Her steady faith, resilient spirit, and ready embrace will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A visitation in memory of Estella Ewing will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Belle Memorial Funeral Home, 216 Hwy 25 South, Aberdeen, MS 39730. A Celebration of Life service will follow on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Missionary Baptist Church, 10575 Old Magnolia Highway, Prairie, MS 39756. Interment will take place at the Second Baptist Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Estella Ewing’s legacy endures through the loving memories of her family, the gratitude of those she cared for, and her steadfast example of faith and service. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
