Elizabeth Augusta Birmingham Watkins, 72, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Nettleton, Mississippi. Born on July 15, 1953, in Tupelo, Lee County, MS, she lived a life marked by grace, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to her family and community.

Elizabeth was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Birmingham; her mother, Myrtle Lou Ruff - Birmingham; her husband, Johnny Joe Watkins; and her sisters, Mattie Bell Heard and Cynthia L. Birmingham. Though deeply missed, their memories remain cherished within her family and community.

Her legacy is carried on by her devoted children: Joshonn Watkins, her son; and her daughters Tonya Lashawn (Zachary) Moton and Lenarge Watkins. The light of Elizabeth’s life extended to her grandchildren—De'Neisha Lester, Dorunina Morris, De'Iunina Morris, Destinee Watkins, De'Ana Watkins, and Joson Watkins—and to her great-grandchildren, Anah'La Kelson, Ay'Dence Shaffer, Jeffrey Williams, Ay'ce Williams, and Jaylaha Lester. Her love and wisdom will forever guide them.

Elizabeth was also cherished by her remaining sisters, Jennie (Johnny Ray) Buchanan and Peggy Birmingham, who stood steadfastly by her side. She counted among her closest and dearest friends Mary Bogan and Honey Cook, as well as a loving circle of nieces, nephews, and relatives whose lives she touched profoundly.

A memorial service to celebrate the life and legacy of Elizabeth Augusta Watkins will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM at the Caring Heart and Hands Adult Daycare Center, located at 217 East Franklin Street, Tupelo, MS 38801. Family, friends, and all whose hearts were warmed by Elizabeth are invited to gather here to honor her memory.

Elizabeth Augusta Watkins’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of many. Her steadfast spirit, nurturing nature, and deep love for her family remain an enduring beacon of inspiration. Through shared stories and treasured memories, her legacy will continue to illuminate the lives of those she so deeply loved.
