It is with deep sorrow and profound respect that we announce the passing of Cleophus "Slim" Gordon Vaughn, Jr., 88, who departed this life on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Born on August 14, 1937,  in Aberdeen, MS, to Cleophus Vaughn, Sr. and Oneida Gordon, Mr. Vaughn lived a life marked by dignity and quiet strength, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know him.

Known affectionately as "Slim," Cleophus Gordon Vaughn, Jr. carried his name with grace and humility throughout his 88 years. His journey, beginning in the mid-20th century, spanned decades of change and growth, during which he remained a steadfast presence to those around him. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, which were his main hobbies throughout his lifetime.  "Slim" also had a particular interest in auto mechanics. Cleophus retired after 38 years of employment at the Union Camp Paper Manufacturing Plant.

Cleophus leaves behind a strong legacy to be cherished by his children: Michelle Matheney, Cleophus G. (Toy) Vaughn III, Terrence (Demarra) Vaughn, and Francis Alfoed.  His memory will live on through his grandchildren: Darien Vaughn-White, Najasha Horn, Antonio Matheney, Cleah Matheney, Rakiah Harris, RayKisha Vaughn, Terrion (Jaden) Vaughn, Quayshaun Vaughn, Tyree Warren, Taveon Vaughn, Antione Vaughn, Sarai Vaughn, Terrence Vaughn, Jr., Al-Nisa (Vaughn) Strater, Harmony Holt, Emerson Alford, Krystin Johnson, and Christopher Johnson. Cleophus is also survived and lovingly remembered by a host of great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

Cleophus is preceded in death by his parents, Cleophus Sr. and Oneida Vaughn, his sister, Shairon Rose, and his loving wife, Cleo Burns-Vaughn.

Visitation services to honor and remember Mr. Vaughn will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Whitley Memorial Funeral Home, located at 303 Balch Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Following this, a Celebration of Life will take place at the same venue from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM. These gatherings provide an opportunity for family, friends, and community members to pay their respects and share memories of his enduring kindness and character.

Additionally, a second visitation service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM, at Belle Memorial Funeral Home, situated at 216 Hwy 25 South, PO Box 129, Aberdeen, Mississippi. A subsequent Celebration of Life will continue at Belle Memorial Funeral Home on that day, beginning at 1:00 PM.

Through these services, those who cherished Cleophus "Slim" Gordon Vaughn, Jr. will come together to honor his memory, celebrate his contributions, and find comfort in shared remembrance. His legacy will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew him, bearing testimony to a life well-lived and deeply respected.
