Bessie Lee Gladney, born Calloway on December 15, 1938, in Madison, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at Froedtert Hospital & Medical College of Wisconsin. She lived a life full of love and determination, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by her family and friends.
Bessie was known for her warm-hearted spirit and unwavering dedication to her loved ones. She is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Patrick Dayries, Tyrell Cook, and John Gladney, all residing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Bessie found great joy in her family, and her bond with her grandchildren was particularly special.
She is also survived by her sisters, Pauline Jenkins of Scoby, Mississippi, and Nora (James) Grisham of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Bessie held a tight-knit relationship with her lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Margaret Wroten, who stood by her side during countless moments of joy and hardship. Along with her immediate family, Bessie leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will remember her for her kindness and strength.
Bessie joins her beloved daughter, Vanessa Wroten, and son, Mark Gladney, in eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elnora (John) Triggs, and her father, Mr. Morris. Bessie was also preceded by her brothers: Ollie Triggs, Hubbard Triggs, Sylvester Triggs, and John Triggs, as well as her sister Darlene Rose and brothers-in-law Willie Rose and Phillip Jenkins.
In honoring her memory, family and friends are invited to celebrate Bessie's life at her funeral service, which will be held on September 19, 2025, at Belle Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce, Mississippi, beginning at 5:00 PM. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Cane Creek Cemetery in Vardaman, Mississippi, at 6:45 PM.
Bessie Lee Gladney's enduring spirit and love for her family will remain a source of comfort and inspiration for all those who were fortunate to know her.
