Deacon Bennie G. Whitfield, Sr., 86, a deeply respected member of his community, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the age of 86 at the North Mississippi Medical Center ~ Gilmore in Amory, MS. Born on September 6, 1938, in Monroe County, Mississippi, he lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and service to others.
Bennie enjoyed a long and fruitful career, initially working at Cramco Automotive before dedicating 32 years of his professional life to Kerr McGee (Tronox). His commitment to his work was paralleled by his service to his church and community. Bennie served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Church Secretary, roles through which he touched many lives and inspired those around him. His soft-spoken and kind personality endeared him to many, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army, demonstrating his commitment to his country during a time when service was critical. After serving a tour in the U.S. Army, Bennie later served in the MS National Guard in the Amory, MS unit after discharge from active duty.
Bennie is survived by his beloved wife, Ardelia Burnett Whitfield; his son, Bennie G. (Renetta) Whitfield, Jr.; and his daughters, Cynthia Ann Whitfield and Sylvia Ann Whitfield. He is also remembered by his brothers, Arthur James (Susie) Whitfield, Wyncle (Doris) Whitfield, and Marvin (Lisa) Whitfield, as well as his sisters, Lola Ezell, Ella Mae Spratt, Thelma Washington, Debra Chaney, and Brenda Whitfield.
He was preceded in death by his father, Milas Whitfield, and his mother, Ella Jay Slater. Bennie is also preceded in death by his brothers, W.D. Whitfield, Willie James Whitfield, and George Whitfield.
Friends and family are invited to honor his memory during the visitation at Belle Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Mississippi, on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM at Sulphur Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Hamilton, Mississippi.
Bennie G. Whitfield, Sr. lived a life that was a shining example of love, faith, and devotion. His legacy will continue through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
