Alvin Small, Sr., 68, a beloved husband, father, brother, and son, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Gilmore, Amory, MS. Born on February 16, 1957, in Aberdeen, Monroe County, MS, Alvin was a man of warmth and kindness, whose presence touched the lives of many.
Alvin is survived by his devoted mother, Ora Lee Holiman-Small, and his loving wife, Laurie Word-Small. He was a proud father to Phillip Lloyd, Alvin Small, Jr., Jeremy Springer, and daughter, Britany Word. Alvin also shared a special bond with his brothers: Danny Small, Ricky Small, Dexter Small, Onassis Small, Bruce Small, Brad Small, Oneil Small, Thomas Small, and Mack Small, as well as his sister, Maxine Small. Each of these individuals held a unique place in Alvin's heart, and he cherished the time spent with them.
Alvin's interests were diverse and reflected his vibrant personality. He loved fishing, where he found tranquility and joy in nature. A devoted fan, he eagerly enjoyed watching the New England Patriots Football team. His passion for billiards provided him with endless hours of enjoyment and social interaction.
Alvin's legacy will be celebrated during a visitation on Saturday, May 3, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM at the Union Grove United Methodist Church in Nettleton, MS. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service at the Union Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, beginning at 2:00 PM.
As we remember Alvin Small, we honor the life he lived, marked by love, laughter, and a commitment to those he cherished. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
